Roshni Wellness Natural Candles

Entrepreneur: Navjot Gill
Studied: Alumni, International Relations
How did this start? Roshni means light/brightness and I started Roshni Wellness with a vision to bring light to the importance of both self-care and community-care when it comes to wellness spaces. I love using candles to anchor myself in connecting inward or creating a warm inviting space when hosting my friends and family. We love selecting scents that have the ability to create such grounding experiences and anchors.

We make premium natural candles that inspire moments of connection to self and community. $1 from every candle you purchase goes to local organizations who help build stronger connections in communities. Our candles are made with eco-friendly ingredients including coconut-soy wax, cotton wicks, and premium fragrance oils that are phthalate and paraben free. Every single candle in hand-poured in small batches.

Rebel Rebel Liquid Hand Sanitizer

Entrepreneur: Amin Shahbaz
Studied: MBA from Sauder, specialization in Marketing
How did this start? I was born and raised in Iran until the age of seven during the time of the Iran/Iraq war before moving to Vancouver with my family. The motivation to create Rebel Rebel was to offffer customers a premium and fun product in what’s otherwise a commoditized market. We wanted users to be delighted by the artwork and exotic scents but also take note of the incredible origins and cultures that surround these flowers.

Our goal was to redefine the hand sanitizer market by making something uniquely beautiful and using exotic scented oils that haven’t been used before in a sanitizer, like Hawaiian Plumeria. Our sanitizers are manufactured and packaged right here in Vancouver which gives us quality control and reduces shipping waste. We’ve also used scented oils rather than perfumes with the addition of aloe vera as an added moisturizer to prevent drying of hands.

Laid Back Snacks

Entrepreneur: Neil and Ryley
Studied: Neil graduated with his MBA in 2010, Ryley graduated with her BA in 2014
How did this start? The healthy snacks we were looking for were all stuffy and tasteless. We knew there was a gap in the market and we started the company to fill it.

80% Fuel, 20% Fun

We follow the 80/20 rule of snacking: 80% whole grown goodness, 20% reward for making smart decisions. Healthy snacking options you can trust, with no compromise on great taste. We’re inspired to make healthy food more accessible, through convenient delivery and exceptional taste. Laid Back Snacks is about more than just our products. We’re about celebrating delicious food with friends and family, living a healthy and active lifestyle, and enjoying the small things – like that extra handful of Hearty Tamari.

Potteruki Porcelain Earrings

Entrepreneur: Chihiro Uki
Studied: Geography
How did this start?: I started making porcelain earrings for myself using stainless steel because of my metal sensitivities. The pottery studio closed amidst the pandemic, so during this time I started producing the earrings for sale as they were small enough to make at my home studio.

Potteruki’s porcelain earrings are light and made of hypoallergenic stainless steel for everyday comfort. Each piece is designed and handcrafted right here on the UBC Campus. Chihiro’s love for nature is reflected in the design of her porcelain earrings, with some shell designs based on her personal collection gathered from her travels.

Reusable Bubble Tea Cup

Entrepreneur: Carrie Lai and Derek Ho
Studied: Commerce, Music and Education
How did this start? Carrie wanted to boycott bubble tea since it all came in plastic, and her boyfriend Derek couldn’t let her give up the second love of her life. So, he started drafting designs for a custom reusable cup just for her.

We were the first to prove that the concept of reusable cups for bubble tea was easily adopted by consumers and the bubble tea industry. Our glass cups are widemouth and easy to clean, and most parts are dishwasher-safe. The stainless steel drinking straws feature a beveled tip just like traditional bubble tea straws.

Angel + Hare

Entrepreneur: Angela
Studied: Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Education
How did this start? I used to browse for hours trying to pick out the perfect card to make someone smile, but they were often generic and boring – so I decided to make my own! I was inspired to create greeting cards that were just as exciting and meaningful as the gifts they’re given with.

Born from little doodles and puns, Angel + Hare is an eco-conscious stationery brand that creates cute and punny greeting cards – all handmade right here in Vancouver. Each design is created from original artwork that is hand drawn and digitally illustrated, then brought to life inside our little studio by the ocean. Our cards are carefully packaged in recyclable and compostable material, for you and the Earth to feel good about!

Mosa Candles

Entrepreneur: Prishita Agarwal and Abhiudai Mishra
Studied: UBC Bachelor of Commerce
How did this start? We were both passionate about sustainability and shocked to discover that only a small percentage of glass bottles get recycled, even though glass is 100% recyclable! So we decided to rescue these glass bottles from ending up in landfills.

All Mosa products are made from disposed glass bottles. By purchasing a Mosa product, you can directly contribute to the creation of a local circular economy, stepping into a sustainable lifestyle by diverting glass waste from our landfills in tangible ways. We are inviting you to take your first sustainable step today!

Every Mosa product is handcrafted to every detail, with the unique, eye-catching look of upcycled glass yet an impeccably premium feel and indistinguishable functionality from any other home décor product on your table. Our candles are made using highest quality soy-wax and wooden wick for an overall peaceful experience.

If you’re a UBC student or alumnus running your own business, let us know! Send us your proposal and we will get back to you with the next steps.
